Biovela Group launches two lines of cooked sausages after expanding and renewing its product range


BIOVELA Group, the largest meat processing group in the Baltics, has relaunched Biovela Klasika and introduced a new line of Biovela Rinktinė meat products. The innovation of the latter line is peeled sausages, including Daržo sausages with vegetables. According to Vaida Žitlinskaitė, Head of Technology Development at BIOVELA Group, these changes were driven by the desire to adapt to the changing needs of consumers, and a strong focus has been placed on health-friendly, easy-to-consume and sustainable products.

Focusing on changing consumer needs

"This spring, the Biovela Group launched a new product on the market, the Biovela Select range, which focuses on healthier ingredients and convenience. All the sausages in the line are peeled, an innovation that not only contributes significantly to greater consumer convenience, but also speeds up the cooking process.

"The Biovela Rinktinė line consists of high-quality turkey and pork ham sausages, and the biggest innovation is the Daržo sausages with vegetables. The latter is a novelty in Lithuania, designed for a wide range of consumer groups seeking to conveniently and quickly integrate vegetables into their daily diets.

Both the renewed Biovela Klasika and Biovela Rinktinė lines have reduced or completely eliminated food additives (E) and salt content to ensure a better health impact on consumers.

"Consumption habits of meat products in Lithuania are changing, with consumers increasingly focusing on healthier, more sustainable and more convenient products. The main innovation of the Biovela Rinktinės line is the peeled sausages, which can be produced immediately, saving time and eliminating the peeling stage. The packaging of Biovela Klasika has also been updated to provide greater convenience for consumers.

A series of innovations for product innovation

One of the company's main challenges was to develop the technology to produce sausages without a casing, so an advanced automated packaging line was installed, where the sausages are placed into the final packaging by robotics, ensuring an efficient production process.

"We have also reduced or eliminated food additives (E), while maintaining high standards of taste, texture and other important sensory properties. This has been achieved through extensive research and testing, including both the choice of ingredients and the optimisation of production technologies," says Žitlinskaitė.

Responsibly produced products

"In the Biovela Rinktinės line, the elimination of the sausage casing has led to higher sustainability value by reducing the use of plastic. In all its products, the Biovela Group continuously strives to contribute to sustainable solutions by optimising production processes. "We are constantly investing in technologies and advanced equipment that allow us to produce and package products with less plastic. We are converting non-recyclable plastic packaging into recyclable materials, and we are also using solar panels to generate electricity and reduce energy consumption from traditional sources," says the Head of Technology Development at BIOVELA Group.

Just last year, the BIOVELA Group launched its innovative Flow-pack packaging for minced meat, which reduces the amount of plastic by 70%, saving 37 tonnes of plastic per year. We also introduced the vacuum Flat Skin packaging for beef steaks, which reduces plastic consumption by 67% and cardboard by 17% per year. Skin packaging has also been upgraded, eliminating cardboard boxes, saving 65% of plastic.

According to V. Žitlinskaitė, there are many reasons to constantly change and improve, to invest in innovative solutions, but the priority remains the constant search for sustainable solutions to ensure user-friendliness, quality assurance and aesthetic product presentation.
